SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing highly pure chalcogenide glasses with a low content of oxygen impurities, which are promising materials for the manufacture of lenses, optical windows and optical fibres operating in the spectral range of 2-20 mcm. The method for producing highly pure chalcogenide glasses involves loading the charge components into a vacuum-sealed quartz reactor, melting the charge with a component that binds an oxygen impurity, distillation of the glass-forming melt, its homogenizing melting, hardening and annealing of the glass. As a component that binds oxygen impurities, the rare earth element yttrium, terbium or gadolinium is used in an amount of 1000 to 5000 ppm by weight.

EFFECT: reducing the content of oxygen impurities and heterogeneous impurity inclusions in chalcogenide glasses that absorb and scatter radiation in the spectral range of 2-20 mcm, and, as a consequence, increasing the optical transparency of the glasses and reducing optical losses in fibre light guides based on them.
