FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: proposed is a method for entering a vehicle identification number (VIN) using a scanning tool acting as an external vehicle diagnostic apparatus. The vehicle identification information is received from the vehicle. It is determined whether rewriting of the vehicle Identification number (VIN) assigned to the vehicle using the vehicle identification information is allowed or prohibited. If rewriting of the VIN is prohibited, a signal is transmitted to the vehicle, issuing a command to the vehicle to enter the VIN into the non-volatile memory wherein rewriting of the VIN is prohibited. Also proposed are a method for entering the vehicle identification number, a method for controlling the system for entering the vehicle identification number, a machine-readable storage medium.
EFFECT: rewriting of the VIN number is achieved.
