FIELD: pipes testing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the acoustic waveguide non-destructive testing of pipes. The substance of the invention lies in the fact that the diagnostic device is moved along the pipeline, ultrasonic vibrations are periodically excited. In the selected time interval, ultrasonic vibrations are received from acoustic normal waves that have passed along the walls of the pipeline and are reflected from various violations of the continuity of the wall material, and the excitation and reception of ultrasonic vibrations is carried out at several points. Echo signals are selected according to the pre-calculated delay times for all types of acoustic normal waves, then normalized distributions of their amplitudes are built, then the distribution of the quantity is plotted, the values of which are equal to the maximum values of the amplitudes of the total signals from different types of acoustic waves for the points of the pipeline wall surface that coincide in coordinates, and this distribution is judged on the presence and size of defects in the walls of the pipeline. The values of time delays are corrected on the basis of the regularity of changes in the propagation speed of acoustic normal waves arising from the presence of geometric anisotropy and anisotropy of material properties at different pipeline wall thicknesses.
EFFECT: increasing the sensitivity and reliability of acoustic control of pipes.
