FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: in apparatus for nondestructive inspection of walls of ferromagnetic structural elements using ultrasonic waves, primarily shear waves, which are excited by a high frequency inductance coil on the section of the wall which is magnetised in a given direction (B) of magnetic induction, propagating on a path given by orientation of the inductance coil which is a transmitter-transducer, and received by at least inductance coil lying at a distance from the transmitter-transducer, where the said inductance coil is a receiver-transducer, characteristics of the transducers and high frequency which is defined depending on the thickness of the wall, are meant for exciting horizontal shear waves with an order higher than zero, and the direction of the propagation path of the ultrasonic waves is at an acute angle to the direction (B) of the magnetic induction, where the receiver-transducer is placed on one side of the propagation path of the ultrasonic waves and is directed towards the given inspected section lying on the said propagation path.

EFFECT: possibility of efficient and reliable detection of defects of a given type without making the design of the apparatus considerably complex and without considerably increasing power consumption of the apparatus.
