FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used for ultrasonic flaw detection of a pipeline. Diagnostic device with receiving-emitting electromagnetic-acoustic transducers (EMAT) located on both sides of the seam, and a computer-control unit is moved along the seam of the pipeline. Transducers alternately emit pulses of ultrasonic vibrations into the metal of the pipeline and receive realizations of echo signals from metal discontinuities, as well as realizations of vibrations that have passed through the zone of the welded joint. In the computation-control unit, performed are strobing operations of the received realizations, calculating cross-correlation functions of gated parts of realizations of echo signals and oscillations passed through the seam in the form of analytical signals, multiplying one correlation function by another correlation function which is time-reversed and calculating the modulus of this product. Maximum of the modulus and its coordinates on the two-dimensional image are used to determine the location and size of the probable defect in the welded joint. Coordinates of the defect in the plane of the welded joint are counted along the line between the transducers from the axis of the seam and in the direction of movement of the diagnostic device.
EFFECT: increasing the sensitivity and resolution of equipment for flaw detection of welded joints of pipelines.
