FIELD: machine tools.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to control of a stretch-reducing mill for rolling pipes. The mill comprises multiple rolling stands arranged one after the other in the direction of supply of the rolled pipe. The characteristic of the wall thickness of the rolled pipe is determined prior to rolling by means of a wall thickness measuring apparatus. Based on the determined characteristic of the wall thickness, the corresponding rotation speeds of the rolling stands are adjusted to compensate for the fluctuations in the pipe wall thickness by means of the control unit during pipe rolling. The current longitudinal coordinate of the pipe is continuously measured by means of a pipe position measuring apparatus. The measured values of the longitudinal coordinate of the pipe are transmitted to the control unit. The rotation speeds of the rolling stands are adjusted by means of the control unit during pipe rolling based on the transmitted measured values of the current longitudinal coordinate of the pipe to compensate for the fluctuations in the pipe wall thickness.

EFFECT: reliable compensation for the fluctuations in the wall thickness of the rolled pipe is provided as a result.
