FIELD: acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: proposed group of inventions generally relates to curable coating for acoustic panels, acoustic panels coated with curable coating and methods for its manufacture. A coated fiber panel contains mineral wool fiber and starch, wherein the fiber panel has a back side and an opposite front side, as well as a cured coating layer located on the back side of the panel. The cured coating layer contains 10-50 vol.% of an inorganic binder per the total volume of dry coating and 50-90 vol.% of an inorganic filler per the total volume of dry coating. The inorganic binder contains alkaline metal silicate, alkaline earth metal silicate, or a combination thereof. The inorganic binder and the inorganic filler are not similar substances. Coating contains practically no binders based on organic polymers, and the fiber panel is a ceiling tile or an acoustic panel. The method for coating the fiber panel includes obtaining the above-mentioned fiber panel containing mineral wool fiber and starch, applying a layer containing the inorganic binder and the inorganic filler to the back side of the fiver panel, and heating the surface of the layer to a temperature equal to at least 350°F (about 176°C) with the formation of metal silicate-based coating on at least one of sides of the fiber panel.
EFFECT: increase in the resistance of the panel to sagging.
