FIELD: fibrous panels.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to coatings for improving the acoustic characteristics of panels and methods for their manufacture. The invention proposes is a fibrous panel containing starch and mineral wool fiber, having a rear surface and an opposite front surface, where the panel has a cured coating layer that contains from 10 to 100 wt.% of an inorganic binder, based on the total dry coating weight, while the specified inorganic binder comprises a borate salt and at least one of an alkali metal silicate or an alkaline earth metal silicate, and the inorganic binder is water soluble. A method for coating a fibrous panel is also proposed.

EFFECT: panel has improved acoustic performance and increased sag resistance.
