FIELD: hydrometallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the hydrometallurgy of uranium and thorium and can be used for sorption extraction of thorium from nitrate solutions of uranium and thorium by the ion exchange method. A method for sorption extraction of thorium from nitrate solutions of uranium and thorium, including the sorption of thorium on a sulfonic cation exchanger followed by washing the cation exchanger, characterized in that the sulfonic cation exchanger is preliminarily saturated with uranium before sorption of thorium, and after washing the cation exchanger, thorium is sorbed at a thorium concentration in the solution not exceeding 30 mg/l, and the consumption of a nitrate solution of uranium and thorium 0.75-1.0 l per 1.0 l of sulfonic cation exchanger per hour.
EFFECT: method provides a high degree of extraction of thorium from uranium-containing solutions without contamination with foreign impurities and allows the use of ion-exchange resins with a low degree of selectivity.
