FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of superconducting current limiters intended for application under high voltage. The superconducting current limiter (1) comprises at least one superconductor-type conductor (3) wound to form a coil (2) located in a single plane and connecting the first terminal (T1) of the electrical connection with the second terminal (T2) of the electrical connection, wherein an electrical insulation spacer (8) is located between the two turns of the coil (2). According to the invention, the superconductor-type conductor (3) is formed by at least two separate superconducting wires (5) wound in parallel, the ends whereof are electrically connected by the first terminal (T1) of the electrical connection and the second terminal (T2) of the electrical connection, respectively, wherein an electrically conductive spacer (12) providing electrical continuity between said two superconducting wires (5) is located between said two separate superconducting wires (5), wherein said electrically conductive spacer (12) is permeable for a cooling fluid medium.
EFFECT: invention provides a possibility for the current limiter to pass large currents while ensuring effective cooling of the current limiter, wherein said applies to voltages of approximately 50 to 2,000 kV and rated currents of approximately 1,000 to 10,000 A.
