FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: high-temperature superconducting, HTS, excitation coil contains a plurality of turns containing HTS material and a metal stabilizer, and a partially insulating layer separating the turns so that current can be distributed between the turns through the partially insulating layer. Partially insulating layer comprises an insulating area and a plurality of electrically conductive paths through the insulating area, wherein that current can be distributed between turns over conductive paths. Each electroconductive path comprises an HTS bridge containing HTS material, wherein the HTS bridge is arranged in series with the normally conducting material of the electroconductive path.
EFFECT: reduced non-uniform loss of superconductivity without considerable increase in thickness of HTS coils.
