FIELD: hydroacoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of hydroacoustics and can be used to determine the motion parameters of objects detected by sonar. The essence of the invention lies in the fact that a method for determining the radial velocity of an object, including the emission of a tonal signal, reception and selection of an echo signal, analog-to-digital conversion and accumulation of N samples for the duration of the signal, calculation of the echo signal spectrum based on the discrete Fourier transform (DFT), additionally contains steps at which, when calculating the echo signal spectrum, the dimension of the Fourier transform NDFT is set in the form of NDFT = K⋅N, where K= 2, 4, the values of K/2 of the amplitudes and frequency component numbers are stored, adjacent to each side of the frequency number with the maximum amplitude value, the refined value of the Doppler frequency is determined by interpolation, and the radial velocity value is determined taking into account the interpolated value of the Doppler frequency of the echo signal.
EFFECT: reduction in the error of determining the radial velocity of objects for low-frequency sonar with restrictions on the duration of the emitted signals when detecting objects at short distances.
