FIELD: nuclear technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to manufacture of fuel elements (FE) for nuclear reactors and can be applied in enterprises manufacturing FEs. The fuel element (FE) of a nuclear reactor comprises a tubular shell 1 with plugs 2, 3 at the ends thereof. Located inside the shell 1 are fasteners 4, wherein a fuel core 5 is placed between said fasteners. The volume 6 free of the fuel core 5 and the fasteners 4 is filled with gas. A cylindrical protrusion 7 located in the free volume 6 is therein formed on at least one plug 2.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of measurement of the concentration of gas inside the shell of the fuel element by the non-destructive heat method, improved quality of FEs, reduced probability of FEs with an unacceptably low concentration of helium being approved for operation, reduction in the probability of rejection of FEs with an acceptable concentration of helium, increase in the reliability of operation of FEs in the reactor without changing the neutron-physical characteristics of active areas composed from such FEs.
