In the method for estimating the travel time of a vehicle based on determining the condition of the vehicle, the travel starting events and the travel ending events are identified, and the duration of travel is calculated according to the time passed between the identified travel starting event and the identified travel ending event. The fact of transition from the inactive state of the engine or the idle state of the vehicle to the active state or the state of movement is determined if the active state of the engine or the state of movement of the vehicle remains unchanged in the course of a predetermined first time interval of hysteresis. The fact of transition from the active state of the engine or the state of movement of the vehicle to the inactive state or the idle state is determined if the inactive state of the engine or the idle state of the vehicle remains unchanged in the course of a predetermined second time interval of hysteresis.
EFFECT: accuracy of determining the travel time is increased.
