SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the diagnosis of a vehicle. Method for on-board diagnostics of a vehicle includes the step, on which, during the operation of the vehicle, the onboard diagnostic procedure is selectively initiated based on the predicted engine operating conditions with respect to the initial conditions of the on-board diagnostic procedure. Initial conditions include the vehicle speed threshold value. Forecasting is based on the driver's style of driving. Selective initiation includes the steps, during which, in accordance with the predicted engine operating conditions, the initial conditions are initiated by the on-board diagnostic procedure in response to the vehicle speed, which exceeds the threshold value. If the predicted engine operating conditions do not match the initial conditions, the vehicle speed threshold value is reduced and the on-board diagnostics procedure is initiated in response to the vehicle speed exceeding the reduced threshold value. Selective initiation further includes the step of temporarily adjusting the initial conditions and execution conditions.

EFFECT: increased control of the vehicle.
