FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the drive of a medium voltage switch with vacuum interrupters, as well as to the method for its operation, wherein the drive is equipped with a magnetic actuator with a magnetic circuit and an armature, wherein at least the magnetic circuit or armature is movable, and the movable part of the drive is connected to the movable part of the switch, and the magnetic circuit is equipped with an excitation coil. The invention consists in the fact that the excitation coil is started actively, and the magnetic circuit is equipped with an additional passive coil, which is connected to the excitation coil only inductively and whose terminals are shorted, and at least one permanent magnet located inside or on a usually stationary magnetic circuit, through which the magnetic flux will additionally concentrate and/or amplify in the direction of the air gap to the usually movable armature.
EFFECT: efficient and self-regulating method, but simple from the point of view of design: the creation of whirling currents in the actuator is ensured, and the speed of operation of the circuit breaker is also limited.
