SUBSTANCE: area of application: the present invention relates to a mechanism for displaying the phases of the moon. In particular, the moon phase displaying mechanism according to the invention is intended for installation in a small-sized object suitable for wear, such as a watch, in particular, a wristwatch. Substance: the moon phase displaying mechanism is actuated by a clock mechanism, wherein said moon phase displaying mechanism (1) comprises a transparent support (98) provided with an upper surface (100) and a lower surface (102), continued at a distance from the upper surface (102), an image (104) of the moon, transferred, e.g., by printing or engraving, to the upper (100) or lower (102) surface of said transparent support (98), a substrate (106) located under the transparent support (98) at a distance from the lower surface of the latter, wherein the moon phase displaying mechanism (1) also comprises a shutter (94) driven by driving means (72) driven by a clock mechanism, configured to move between the transparent support (98) and the substrate (106), wherein the shutter (94) and the substrate (106) have display contrasts inverse relative to each other, wherein the shutter (94) moves from the initial position to the final position in the course of the lunar cycle to display the appearance of the moon, changing from the new moon to the first quarter of the moon, then from the first quarter of the moon to the full moon, then to the last quarter of the moon, and, finally, to the new moon, for the observer day by day, wherein the shutter (94) returns from the final position to the initial position at the end of the lunar month by means of the driving means.
EFFECT: provided clarity when indicating the phases of the moon, ensured compactness of the moon phase displaying mechanism utilising a sphere.
