SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of melting production and can be used to regulate the melting process in electric arc furnaces. The method includes the supply of alternating mains voltage and current of industrial frequency from the power supply network to at least one transformer, their conversion into a given base voltage and current having a base frequency, from which constant voltage and current are obtained by means of rectifiers. The received constant voltage and current are converted by means of converters into alternating supply voltage and current, which are set using a control unit connected to the converters and fed to the electrodes of an electric arc furnace, while at each stage of the furnace melting cycle, the frequency of supply voltage and current is regulated by means of control devices of the control unit, regardless of the frequency of the power supply network, ensuring regulation of the reactance of the power supply circuit of the furnace electrodes. The invention also includes an appropriate device for regulating the melting process in an electric arc furnace.

EFFECT: use of the inventions makes it possible to increase the efficiency of the melting process and reduce the duration of the melting cycle.
