FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing N-methyl-p-toluidine by interaction of p-toluidine with methanol, differ in that at least one catalyst is used that contains at least following amounts of components: from 47.5 to 60.5 wt.% of copper, from 15.2 to 19.5 wt.% of zinc, from 2.5 to 3.6 wt.% of aluminum, as well as from 16.2 to 24.5 wt.% of oxygen, and, if necessary, from 0 to 10 wt.% of carbon, wherein the total amount of copper, zinc, aluminum, oxygen, and, if necessary, carbon is at least 99 wt.% of the total amount of the catalyst.
EFFECT: method allows producing N-methyl-p-toluidine with high yield and high performance based on catalyst with long service life that does not contain carcinogenic metals or corresponding oxides.
