FIELD: waste batteries processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for processing waste salt and alkaline batteries. The method includes sequential stages of grinding, heat treatment of the crushed mass, leaching in alkali solutions, cathodic deposition of zinc from an alkaline solution, while the crushed material is preliminarily washed with water at a ratio of liquid to solid phase by weight from 2:1 to 3:1 to remove chlorides. The washed material is dried and mixed with sodium peroxide, heat treatment is carried out to decompose alkali-insoluble zinc and manganese compounds at temperatures from 500 to 800°C for 90-120 minutes, while sodium peroxide consumption is 25-65% of the mass of the dried material.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of zinc extraction during leaching due to destruction of insoluble zinc compounds with formation of alkali-soluble zincates.
