FIELD: computer technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of digital data processing, in particular to a method and a cognitive video analysis system for detecting damage on vehicles, namely to the field of automation of counting a number of dents on vehicle body elements, caused by external effects, and their physical parameters. The claimed computer-implemented method for detecting dents on vehicle body elements consists in performing stages, at which, using a device for receiving digital images and a computing device, the following is performed: receiving by the device for receiving digital images at least one digital image of ultraviolet, infrared or visible spectral range characterizing the vehicle or part thereof; performing detection and classification of at least one vehicle body element based on analysis on at least one received digital image characterizing the vehicle or part thereof, wherein the analysis includes processing the image area using a predictor for the presence of at least one type of vehicle body element from a given set of possible types of vehicle body elements; performing framing and segmentation of at least one digital image characterizing the vehicle or part thereof, containing at least one detected vehicle body element, to obtain at least one segmented digital image containing only vehicle body element; determining, based on analysis, on at least one received digital image of the vehicle body element and allocating at least one dent on it, wherein the analysis includes processing the image area using a neural network predictor for the presence of dents on the digital image of the vehicle body element; performing algorithmic data processing for dents detected on the vehicle body element with the determination for each dent of at least one parameter selected from a group: coordinates of the spatial location on the vehicle body element, geometric size, area, volume; and forming a package of consolidated data obtained by processing digital images of the given vehicle or parts thereof, containing information about at least one parameter selected from a group: a number of dents on at least one vehicle body element, coordinates of the spatial location of at least one dent, physical parameters of at least one dent, physical parameters of an arbitrary set of dents.
EFFECT: simplification of the damage assessment procedure, reduction of time spent on damage assessment of vehicles.
