SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to a method and a device for detecting precipitation in the form of ice or snow on a controlled surface and can be used in transport (railway, aviation, etc.), at construction and industrial facilities (including power engineering). The device for determining the ice thickness on the working surface of the icing sensor contains a sensor (1) with structurally identical, spaced at a minimum distance, isolated from each other (jumper L) first and second sensitive elements (SE 2 and SE 3) and equally horizontally oriented in space, each of which has a heat-conducting plate (11 and 12) with an external working surface of area S for atmospheric action, a built-in temperature sensor of the plate T1, Т2, a heater (4, 5) from its rear side (15, 16), as well as hardware (10) with devices for control, measurement, information processing, indication and/or registration of signals and data transmission. The information processing device provides a difference scheme for determining the value ΔT(t) = T1(t) - Т2(t). The control device is configured to turn on the second heater (5) with a time delay Δt after turning on the first heater (4), and the indicating and/or recording devices are made with the possibility of independent direct indication and recording of the ΔT(t) value. The hardware part (10) of the device additionally provides a channel for determining, indicating and recording the thickness h of icing of the working surface of the sensor, which includes a power meter W of the sensor heaters and a meter for the duration of the zero phase transformation (transition) section according to the condition ΔT(t) = 0, the outputs of which are connected to the input of the multiplier with an algorithm for determining the thickness h of icing, with the possibility of determining, indicating and registering the value of h at the output. Another invention of the group relates to a method for determining the thickness of ice on the working surface of the icing sensor.

EFFECT: technical and operational characteristics of the method and device for determining the thickness of ice are expanded due to the additional possibility of an operational quantitative assessment of the thickness of icing.
