FIELD: encoding means.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding a stereophonic audio signal. Decreasing mixing of left and right channels of a stereophonic sound signal is carried out to form primary and secondary channels. The primary channel and the secondary channel are encoded, wherein the primary channel encoding the secondary channel encoding contain the determination of the first bit budget to encode the primary channel and the second bit budget to encode the secondary channel. If the second bit budget is sufficient, then the secondary channel is encoded using the first encoding model using four subframes per one frame. If the second bit budget is insufficient for using the first encoding model, then the secondary channel is encoded using the second encoding model using two subframes per one frame.

EFFECT: increase in the encoding efficiency.
