SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding stereophonic sound. Left and right channels of a stereophonic sound signal are mixed with a decrease to form primary and secondary channels. The primary channel and the secondary channel are encoded. The secondary channel encoding contains analysis of coherence between encoding parameters calculated during the secondary channel encoding and encoding parameters calculated during the primary channel encoding to make a decision, whether encoding parameters calculated during the primary channel encoding are close enough to encoding parameters calculated during the secondary channel encoding to be reused during the secondary channel encoding.

EFFECT: increase in the encoding efficiency.
