SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to encoding and decoding bit streams of audio data. Encoding/decoding a bitstream of voice and audio services with a presence effect (IVAS) includes encoding/decoding a coding mode indicator in the common header (CH) section of the IVAS bitstream, encoding/decoding a mode header or an instrument header in an instrument header (TH) section of a bitstream, wherein the TH section follows the CH section, the metadata payload encoding/decoding in the metadata payload section (MDP) of the bitstream, wherein the MDP section follows the CH section, enhanced voice services (EVS) payload encoding/decoding in the EVS (EP) payload section of the bitstream, wherein the EP section follows the CH section, and at the encoder side, storing or streaming the encoded bitstream, and on the decoder side, controlling the audio decoder based on the encoding mode, the tool header, the EVS payload and the metadata payload or storing their representation.
EFFECT: providing a reliable bitstream format which supports a number of functionalities of audio services which up-mix a monophonic signal into a stereophonic signal.
