SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electroplating and can be used for applying a protective coating to parts operating under load in aggressive environments, increasing the reliability of products and apparatuses, and increasing the operating life thereof. The electrolyte comprises sulphuric acid nickel heptahydrate 40 to 45 g/l, sodium citrate 250 to 290 g/l, sodium tungstate 115 to 130 g/l, ammonium chloride 26 to 27 g/l, and water the rest. The method includes preparation of the electrolyte and electric deposition of a coating onto the metal base at pH = 7.5 to 8.5, electrolyte temperature of 60 to 70°C and deposition current density of 5 to 10 A/dm2.

EFFECT: creation of a universal electrolyte and a method for applying a protective coating to parts made of low-carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and copper alloys.
