FIELD: lubricants.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to lubricating compositions containing a base oil and a volatility-reducing additive for specific application in the crankcase of internal combustion engine, in particular, an internal combustion engine used in passenger cars or light-duty trucks; said base oil comprises 80% or more of one or more base oils produced by the Fischer-Tropsch method, by weight of the base oil; the resulting composition containing said base oil and said volatility-reducing additive has a kinematic viscosity at 100°C (in accordance with ASTM D445) from 3.8 to 16.3 mm2/s, cold starting low-temperature viscosity no greater than 6,200 cP at -35°C (ASTM D5293) and NOACK volatility no greater than 15% in accordance with ASTM D5800B; said volatility-reducing additive is selected from a molybdenum-based friction modifier, amine antioxidants, and combinations thereof; said volatility-reducing additive is added in an amount ranging from 0.5 wt.% to 5 wt.%, and the amount of present base oil ranges from 60 to 99 wt.% relative to the total weight of said lubricating composition.
EFFECT: application of the claimed volatility-reducing additive in the claimed lubricating composition provides a possibility of reducing the volatility according to NOACK of the resulting lubricating composition compared to a similar lubricating composition containing no added volatility-reducing additive in accordance with the present invention.
