FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the use of a non-silicone antifoam additive to reduce the NOACK volatility of the lubricant composition, as well as to the lubricating composition itself for use in the crankcase of an internal combustion engine comprising: (i) base oil; (ii) non-silicone antifoam additive; and (iii) one or more additives, said non-silicone antifoam additive being an alkyl polyacrylate present at a level of from 10 ppm to 500 ppm by weight of the composition. Base oil contains one or more base oils obtained by Fischer-Tropsch, wherein said composition has a kinematic viscosity at 100 °C (according to ASTM D445) of 16.3 mm2/s or less, viscosity for starting the engine at a low temperature of at most 6600 cps at -30 °C (ASTM D5293) and the NOACK volatility is at most 11% according to CEC-L-40-93.
EFFECT: present invention allows the formulation of alternative SAE J300 OW-30 and OW-40 crankcase engine oils.
