SUBSTANCE: emergency stop system (1) for transferring a partially autonomously operated vehicle to a safe state comprises an actuator (100) for issuing an actuation signal, a control device (200) for receiving an actuation signal and issuing a control signal. The system comprises an emergency braking device (400) for actively braking a vehicle, and the emergency braking device (400) is configured to, based on the issued control signal and based on a predetermined operating mode, activate the braking system provided in the vehicle (800, 802) to create braking force to decelerate the vehicle. A vehicle has also been proposed.
