SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to electrodynamic brake systems for vehicles. Railway vehicle braking system comprises at least one first electrodynamic brake (24, 80), which includes drive unit (16) with drive motor (18) and unit (20) power supply drive motor (18) in traction mode. Unit (22; 82) has corresponding braking control unit (20) and power supply unit (28, 30, 84) braking control, which in first braking mode control unit (20) power supply to provide braking effect. Brake system comprises one sensor unit (58, 86) for detecting index (B1) of braking effect for first brake braking mode (24, 80). First device (53, 190) is independent of braking control unit (22; 82) adjustment of braking, taking into account index (B1) of braking effect, applies restoration action on first brake (24, 80). Second object is a method of braking railway vehicle.

EFFECT: technical result of invention is improvement of reliability of electrodynamic brake.
