FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to electrodynamic brake systems for vehicles. Railway vehicle braking system comprises at least one first electrodynamic brake (24), which includes drive unit (16) with drive motor (18) and unit (20) for power supply to drive motor (18) in traction mode. Besides, the brake system comprises two units (28; 30) for braking control. Note here, that in the first braking mode, first braking unit (28) controls unit (20) for power supply to ensure braking effect. First unit (50) for braking effect control and switching unit (32), depending on the value of braking action in the first braking mode, is switched to a second mode. In the second braking mode, second braking unit (30) controls braking unit (20) for power supply. Second object is a method of railway vehicle braking.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention consists in improvement of reliability of electrodynamic brake.
