METHOD FOR FORMING A PHANTOM HAND MAP IN PATIENTS WITH UPPER LIMB AMPUTATION BASED ON NEUROPLASTICITY ACTIVATION Russian patent published in 2022 - IPC A61B5/05 A61B5/291 A61B5/369 A61N1/18 G09B19/00

Abstract RU 2766044 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention refers to medicine, namely to rehabilitation, and can be used to form a phantom hand map. Sensitivity is determined on the skin of the stump using the installed electroencephalographic electrodes by means of stimulation with bipolar current pulses of 100–300 ms with frequency of 3–5 Hz. Intensity is selected individually 3–4 times higher than the level of the patient’s sensory threshold. 300–500 simulations are presented successively on each of the external, internal, front and back surfaces of the hand stump. Somatosensory evoked potential is obtained by averaging the obtained electroencephalographic activity. Maximum amplitude of the cortical responses is used to determine the location of the complex of electromechanical devices. Tactile sensitivity of the phantom hand map is trained by means of virtual reality glasses which demonstrate a virtual limb to the patient. Also used is complex of 6 electromechanical devices installed in accordance with five fingers and one device for palmar surface, optical tracker and stereo camera. Motions of the virtual and physical hands are compared to form an illusion of an intact limb and possibility of its movement. Fingers and palmar surface of the virtual hand are touched by objects which cause activation of tactile sensitivity in the physical world. Duration of one lesson is from 30 to 50 minutes, once a day.

EFFECT: method provides formation of a phantom map on the skin of the hand, touching which causes tactile sensations, which are identical to sensations when touching separate fingers with an intact hand.
