FIELD: measurement technology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to investigation of properties of surfaces of solid bodies and can be used in solving fundamental and applied problems in chemical, petrochemical, paint and varnish, pharmaceutical and food industries. Method includes determining wetting angle of defatted surface of solid body with molar volume , determination of the drop volume discontinuity height on the dry surface of the solid body and the surface tension determination by formula, N/m: , where ; ρl is density of liquid, kg/m3; wd is the drop free fall speed from the height at which the continuity of its volume on the surface begins to break, m/s; dd is drop diameter, m; k is a coefficient which takes into account the projection of the surface tension force at the liquid-gas interface on the plane of the surface of the solid body; h is the drop free fall height at which the continuity of its volume on the surface begins to break, m; θ — wetting angle at liquid flow onto surface at temperature of 293 K, degrees; T is solid body surface temperature, K; Vm is molar volume of substance of solid body, m3/mol.

EFFECT: simplified method of determining surface tension of a solid body.
