FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to encoding and decoding a point cloud representing a three-dimensional object, particularly to projection encoding/decoding of a point cloud. Disclosed is a method of encoding and decoding a point cloud, in which at least one point of the point cloud is orthogonally projected along the projection lines and for at least two points of the identical projection line transmitting in service signals in the bit stream whether or not the position of the said projection line is occupied between the closer and more distant points of the said projection line.
EFFECT: high coding efficiency.
