FIELD: coding.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the coding and reconstruction of three-dimensional (3D) points, in particular to the coding/reconstruction of a point cloud representing the outer surface of a 3D object. A method is proposed for encoding 3D points, the geometry of which is displayed as geometry images, and the attribute is displayed as an attribute image, the method involves a check to find out if the pixel depth value in the first of the specified geometry images does not match the depth value of the aligned pixel in the second of the specified geometry images (whether the specified values are identical). If the value of the pixel depth in the specified first geometry image does not match the value of the combined pixel depth in the specified second geometry image, then the proposed method involves assigning (coding) a 3D point attribute determined by the spatial 2D coordinates of the specified pixel in the specified first geometry image and the value the depth of said aligned pixel in said second geometry image.
EFFECT: increased efficiency and speed of encoding without significant expenditure of resources for calculating and storing data on both the encoding and decoding sides.
