FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to therapy and pulmonology, and can be used to determine the severity of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) by analyzing blood serum. At admission to hospital in patients with CKD with suspected community-acquired pneumonia, concentrations of procalcitonin and β2-microglobulin in blood serum are determined. Ratio of these two proteins is found by dividing the concentration of procalcitonin by the concentration β2-microglobulin, multiplied by 100. If the coefficient is less than 5 points, pneumonia of non-bacterial etiology is diagnosed. If the values are from 5 to 10 points, moderate bacterial pneumonia is diagnosed. Above 10 points, severe bacterial pneumonia is diagnosed.
EFFECT: method provides the possibility of increasing the accuracy of CAP differentiation in patients with CKD, by method available for use in practical health care due to the fact that the presented markers: procalcitonin and β2-microglobulin together are highly sensitive indicators reflecting the state of the inflammatory process.
