METHOD FOR EARLY DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS OF VIRAL AND BACTERIAL COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA IN CHILDREN Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC G01N33/48 A61B5/00

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to infectious diseases, and can be used for early diagnosis of viral or bacterial etiology of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in children. The child undergoes a clinical and laboratory examination, determines the presence of broncho-obstructive syndrome, age, the absolute number of neutrophils, the relative number of stab neutrophils and the width of the distribution of platelets by volume, the obtained values are entered into the formulas for calculating the linear discriminant function: LDF1 (viral infection) and LDF2 (bacterial community-acquired pneumonia). The values of LDF1 and LDF2 indices are compared, and with LDF1>LDF2, viral community-acquired pneumonia is diagnosed, and with LDF2>LDF1, bacterial community-acquired pneumonia is diagnosed.

EFFECT: method does not require complex laboratory and instrumental examination, is available at any stage of medical care (outpatient or inpatient) and allows early differentiation of viral and bacterial etiology of CAP; this helps to reduce the frequency of irrational use of antibiotics in case of viral CAP and promptly prescribe rational etiotropic therapy in case of a high probability of bacterial CAP to prevent complications of the disease.
