FIELD: measuring.
SUBSTANCE: use: invention relates to the field of hydroacoustic measurements and can be used to form a complete profile of the vertical distribution of the speed of sound (VDSS) in water from the surface of the sea to the bottom. Substance: the hydrophysical parameters of the aquatic environment are measured by the shipboard equipment and a fragment of the VDSS not characterising the field of speed of sound in the deep and bottom layers of the sea is formed. Using a set of gradients of the speed of sound for typical layers of the sea water column of a certain marine area and the current season of the year in the form of a climatic database and a typical VDSS curve in the bottom layer, the last point of the speed of sound measured by depth is consecutively completed with the first point of the speed of sound of the typical curve, located on the interface horizon, accounting for the characteristic gradient structure of the aquatic environment.
EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of solving the practical problems requiring a full VDSS profile due to the increase in the accuracy of the digital model of the channel of distribution of acoustic energy in the aquatic environment.
