FIELD: optoelectronic engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optoelectronic engineering, in particular to devices based on liquid crystals and designed to control the polarization of transmitted light using an electric field. An electrically controlled light polarization rotator consists of two glass substrates with transparent electrodes on the inner sides, between which there is a layer of a cholesteric liquid crystal. The electrode of one of the substrates is treated to provide tangential surface adhesion for the cholesteric used. The electrode on the second substrate is treated in such a way that conical surface anchoring is provided for the used cholesteric with a director inclination angle in the range from 30° to 50° to the normal, as a result of which a twisted director configuration with tangentially conical surface anchoring is formed in the cholesteric layer, in which under the influence of an electric field of various magnitudes, a smooth change in the director twist angle occurs.
EFFECT: creation of an electrically controlled liquid crystal rotator, providing a low control voltage and increasing the change in the angle of rotation of the light polarization.
