FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of experimental medicine and pertains to radiation biology, namely, to a method for increasing the survival rate after acute radiation exposure in an experiment. The method consists in the following: in order to prevent acute radiation damage, injecting purified turpentine to rats intravenously at a dose of 0.25 ml per 1 kg of body weight 1 hour before total gamma irradiation with 60Co; for preventing acute radiation damage, injecting purified turpentine to rats intravenously at a dose of 0.25 ml per 1 kg of body weight twice - one hour and 24 hours after total gamma irradiation with 60Co.
EFFECT: proposed method provides a significant increase in the survival rate of irradiated animals by 2 to 4 times compared to irradiated control indicators; applied turpentine is effective as a radioprotector and as a medicinal product in radiopathology.
