FIELD: chemical industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the preparation of a silica-carbon-containing charge and can be used in the electrothermal production of silicon carbide. The method involves mixing a silica-containing material with a carbonaceous material. Moreover, quartzite with a grain size of up to 0.5 mm in an amount of 75-80 wt. %, is fed as a silica-containing material for mixing, petroleum coke is fed as a carbonaceous material, which has previously passed the stage of delayed coking at a temperature of 1150-1300°C for 0.3-0.5 hours together with heavy pyrolysis resin in an amount of 1-6 wt. %, crushed to the size of no more than 5 mm in an amount of 15-22 wt. %.
EFFECT: increase in the electrical resistance of the charge, a reduction in energy costs and an increase in the yield of the commercial product.
