FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the chemical industry. A silica-containing material - quartzite is mixed with a carbon material - petroleum coke produced through the delayed coking process at 1,150 to 1,300°C for 0.3 to 0.5 h combined with heavy pyrolysis resin. The carbon material contains, % wt.: 75 to 95 petroleum coke and 5 to 25 heavy pyrolysis resin. The resulting mixture is subjected to stage-wise heat treatment at 1,000 to 1,900°C while supplying argon. At the first stage, the mixture is heated to 1,000°C and held for 0.3 to 0.5 h, and at the second stage, the mixture is heated to 1,600-1,900°C at a rate of no more than 300 deg/min. The produced silicon carbide is then cooled.
EFFECT: possibility of increasing the yield of the target product, reducing the power consumption and the content of sulphur therein.
