FIELD: ethylene production.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for the production of ethylene, in which an initial reaction mixture containing ethane and oxygen is formed, and part of the ethane and oxygen in the initial reaction mixture is converted into ethylene and acetic acid by oxidative dehydrogenation to obtain a process gas, and the process gas contains unreacted part of the ethane and oxygen, ethylene and acetic acid, and water, and while the process gas is subjected to rapid cooling with water. The method is characterized in that quenching with water comprises introducing a process gas into a washing column (10, 20, 30, 40, 50) in which respective aqueous streams of liquid washing medium are introduced into at least two different parts of the column and flow into countercurrent to the process gas, wherein the column includes a first column section and a second column section, wherein the first liquid flush medium stream is introduced into the first column section and the second liquid flush medium stream is introduced into the second column section. The corresponding installation (100) is also part of the present invention.

EFFECT: acetic acid generated during the FDH process can be largely removed in the first stage or early stage of the respective separation; the method for the present invention further provides good heat integration and low system pressure drop.
