FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to organic chemistry, specifically to a method of producing ethylene and acetic acid, in which ethane is subjected to oxidative dehydrogenation in reactor (10) having a plurality of reaction zones (11, 12, 13), wherein that gas mixture containing ethane is passed through reaction zones (11, 12, 13). Catalysts of the same type contain at least elements of molybdenum, vanadium, niobium and possibly tellurium, of the same basic composition and are provided in different concentrations or in different content per unit volume. Oxidative dehydrogenation is carried out in the temperature range from 240 to 500 °C and in the pressure range at the reactor inlet from 0.1 to 1 MPa of absolute pressure. In addition, the object of the invention is also a system for realizing the method of producing ethylene and acetic acid.

EFFECT: providing a method and an adapted system for flexible process shift towards higher selectivity for a more required alternative product while maintaining maximum ethane conversion.
