SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the pharmaceutical industry, namely to the use of a composition based on Vaccinium macrocarpon extract for oral administration for the prevention and/or treatment of colon diverticulosis, pathologies or diseases associated with the presence of diverticula selected from diverticular disease, symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) and colon diverticulitis. The use of a composition based on Vaccinium macrocarpon extract for oral administration is proposed for the prevention and/or treatment of colon diverticulosis, pathologies or diseases associated with the presence of diverticula selected from diverticular disease, symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) and colon diverticulitis, where the composition contains or consists of: (i) a core containing or consisting of at least (a) Vaccinium macrocarpon extract in the amount ranging from 150 to 600 mg relatively to the total weight of (i), and containing from 5 to 30% of proanthocyanidins (PAC) in a concentration by weight or by volume, and at least one auxiliary ingredient and/or auxiliary substance (b) acceptable for pharmaceutical or food use; (ii) a gastro-resistant layer, external to the core (i), and completely covering (i) and containing at least one auxiliary ingredient and/or auxiliary substance (c) acceptable for pharmaceutical or food use, wherein the specified gastro-resistant layer (ii) is capable of releasing the extract (a) in the colon.

EFFECT: above-described use of the composition is effective for the prevention and/or treatment of colon diverticulosis, pathologies or diseases associated with the presence of diverticula selected from diverticular disease, symptomatic uncomplicated diverticular disease (SUDD) and colon diverticulitis.
