SUBSTANCE: area of application: for predicting and estimating the maximum energy and length of surface waves. The substance of the invention consists in determining the initial data of the cyclone - the maximum speed um of the near-water wind in the cyclone, the distance Rm from the centre of the cyclone to the points with the maximum speed of the near-water wind, and the speed V of the translational motion of the cyclone, used to calculate, for the stationary cyclone, at V=0, the values of maximum energy e0 max and maximum length λp0max of surface waves based on the corresponding mathematical expressions, and then, based on the values of maximum energy e0max and maximum length λp0max of surface waves, calculating the values of maximum energy emax and maximum length λpmax of surface waves generated by a moving cyclone, based on the corresponding mathematical expressions.
EFFECT: provided possibility of raising the accuracy of estimating the maximum length and energy of surface waves.
