FIELD: petroleum industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the petroleum and gas industry. Disclosed is a method for determining the dispersion capacity of an oil-water emulsion, including direct visualisation of an image formed during microscopic observation, followed by processing the data on a computer and determining the dispersion capacity of the emulsion based on the histogram of distribution of water droplets in the volume of oil. Data processing therein additionally includes determining the water content, characterised by water globules of a certain size, by constructing a histogram displaying the degree of contribution of the size or range of sizes of the water globules to the apparent water content of the emulsion, and the apparent water content of the emulsion is determined as follows: the amount and the corresponding size of the globules are grouped by the diameter value di, the percentage of globules of each size is determined, a histogram of distribution of water globules by diameter di is constructed; then, by multiplying the amount of globules falling within each interval and the volume of a single sphere the diameter whereof is equal to the middle of the studied interval, the volume of water created by the globules of the given interval is calculated, the total volume of all water globules is determined, followed by calculating the percentage of volume of the water globules for each interval and determining the apparent water content of the emulsion as the product of the percentage of volume of the water globules for each interval by the total water content of the emulsion.
EFFECT: assessment of the dispersion capacity of the emulsion and determination of the contribution of water globules of different diameters to the formation of apparent water content allowing for an increase in the efficiency of oil preparation processes, optimisation of assessment of the dispersion capacity of the emulsion, and implementation thereof directly in the field.
