FIELD: measuring equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to measuring equipment and can be used in the petroleum industry and in other fields of science wherein particle size analysis of liquid dispersed media is required. Method for determining the drop size of an emulsion includes the application of particle size analysis of dispersed media of oil-water emulsions, wherein the analysis is implemented using a 40 to 400-power electronic digital microscope based on microphotographs. The photograph is sent to a raster image processing program where which the dispersed phase is identified in the dispersed medium by the operator due to the visibility of drops in the image, wherein each drop is contoured by marking the boundaries of the dispersed phase with thin lines; the contoured area is calculated in pixels, and, based on the results of the measurements, the correlation between the number of measured drops of the dispersed phase and the size thereof in the sample, wherein said correlation is then used to determine the particle size percentage.
EFFECT: higher accuracy of the results of measuring the drop size of the dispersed phase.
