FIELD: waste processing.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for processing liquid radioactive waste (LRW) in preparation for burial. The method includes a cooling cycle of a solution containing a solvent and inorganic LRW. Cooling of the solution is carried out in a container, the cross-section of which narrows vertically from bottom to top. The container is made of a material whose thermal conductivity coefficient does not exceed the thermal conductivity coefficient of the solvent. The container is filled with a solution and the solution is cooled using a gaseous coolant, which is fed to the upper part of the container on the open surface of the solution. The solution is cooled to the temperature of the phase transition of the solvent from the liquid to the solid state. After the formation of an ice layer, the liquid phase is drained from the container and the solid phase is extracted using the liquid phase drain device and the solid phase extraction device installed at the bottom of the container. The liquid phase is drained into a tank for storing concentrated LRW.

EFFECT: increase in the energy efficiency of the LRW concentration process by reducing the energy costs of freezing and thawing the solution and ensuring the safety of handling LRW due to the localization of radionuclides in the container.
