FIELD: steel hardening.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of steel hardening and can be used in various industries, such as metallurgy, agriculture, defense industry and mechanical engineering. Steel surface hardening method includes heating the steel surface with an electric arc of reverse polarity burning from a carbon electrode, moving the carbon electrode along the steel surface with simultaneous movement in the direction of the steel surface at a speed equal to its wear rate. A film of cerium oxide (CeO2) is formed on the steel surface before it is heated.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance of the steel surface due to the production of a steel surface with high physical and mechanical properties while simplifying the design of equipment for implementing the proposed method.
